As noted in the history of Kumejima, the island was once split into two separate administrative districts. One of those magiri was Nakazato. Next to Misaki Elementary School stands the ancient walls that once surrounded the seat of governing power on the island.
Tough the coral rock walls still stand, and provide an interesting look at how such walls were created, today the interior remains open. Often, grandparents meet to play gett-ball there, a game similar to ground golf. Check it out for a look back in time, or for a quiet spot to stop and relax.
